| Environment | VW Autoeuropa´s plant has been built with the minimisation of environmental impact as one of the primary concerns. The plant has been designed from the outset to meet the most demanding of European regulations. The factory has been built to standards well in advance of legislation governing this sector of industry, including regulations on water-based paints. There are on-site facilities for primary waste-water treatment. Paint process water is recycled and re-used. There is regular air monitoring of emissions. All employees are encouraged to be environmentally aware, through recycling of paper and printing materials, correct disposal of batteries, etc. In 1997 VW Autoeuropa converted to natural gas. Metal scrap is fully recycled. All non-production chemicals used in the plant have to be approved prior to use by a multi-skilled team of experts. All types of waste are treated in full compliance with national laws. In December 1998, VW Autoeuropa achieved Environmental Certification ISO 14001. |
